Install BTUBUSTERS
tm Radiant Barrier or BTUFOIL
tm Reflective Insulation
on top of existing deck,
install 1" x 4" " nailers / strippers " on top.
Either new deck can be installed, or metal panels can be installed
directly to the nailers.
Nailers are run either vertical or horizontal depending on your
new roofing panels.

In this application, the owner ( an Architect in California ) was re-decking the entire roof. Due to the original construction of the home, there was no attic space and no insulation initially installed in the roof of the home. This lead to extreme heat gain in the summer and heat loss in the winter. The owner decided to install one layer of BTUFOIL tm Reflective Insulation, then strip, install one layer of BTUBUSTERS tm Radiant Barrier , re-deck, felt and install new shingles.
An alternate method of using these products is to install
one layer
of BTUFOIL
tm Reflective Insulation or BTUBUSTERS
tm Radiant Barrier on top
of newly felted roof deck, install the nailers / strippers
horizontally
and install new metal roof panels.
In most applications only one
layer of either product is needed.
ROOFS
- UNDER NEW PLYWOOD ROOF DECKING / WHERE SHINGLES ARE TO BE INSTALLED
In new
construction and re-roofing an existing home where the
plywood roof decking is
being replaced, there
is an alternative,
which offers the
advantages of location 2 while
providing
the construction ease of location 1. This
technique places the radiant
barrier
on top of the roof rafters (or trusses) before the roof decking is
applied. It is
installed so that it
droops 1 1/2 to 2 inches
below
the upper surface of the roof structure.
When the roof decking is applied,
an
airspace separates it from the radiant barrier in a way
similar to that of location
2. This
airspace also can be vented separately from the
attic. As with
location 2 the most reflective
radiant barrier surface should face
downward toward the attic airspace.
