Manufacturer Warranty Provides long lasting protection for your ducts Reduces your heating & cooling bills DID YOU KNOW ?? - The key to
maintaining a comfortable, energy efficient living
environment in
a home or building is
to reduce the heat
loss in the winter and to minimize cooling
loads in the
summer. One way to
improve the
energy efficiency of a home or building is
to improve the efficiency of the duct system.
Ducts are
usually made from sheet metal or
flexible plastic
material. A duct system circulates warm and
cold air throughout a home or
building.
BTUFOIL tm REFLECTIVE / DUCT
INSULATION Typical duct systems can lose 25 to 40 percent of the heating or cooling energy emitted by the central furnace, heat pump, or air conditioner. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, leaking ducts can decrease the overall efficiency of a homes heating and cooling system by as much as 20 percent. The typical family can save up to $140 annually by properly sealing leaks in ducts. Recent research funded by the Department of Energy (DOE) and CIEE through Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) found that typically, a quarter of the energy (and therefore money) used for heating and cooling is wasted through duct system energy loss. How to Insulate your HVAC Duct Work with
BTUFOIL tm REFLECTIVE / DUCT
INSULATION
NEW or EXISTING H V A C DUCT
WORK
IMPORTANT:
Be sure that your
duct
work is AIR TIGHT.
Check all joints where the duct
work is joined together.
Tape around each joint with our
approved tape.
Cut 2" wide strips 4'
long. Cut off lengths as
needed.
Wrap the 2" strips around the duct and secure
with
BTUFOIL
tm
approved tape or UL181A Duct Tape as required by
code, appox
12" - 24"
apart as shown above.
This will create an
air space and will keep the duct insulation
from touching the duct work.
Next completely wrap the
duct with widths &
lengths
of BTUFOIL being sure
to
have the seams
meet on top of the 2"
strips. ( as above ) LEAVE LOOSE,
SO THE BTUFOIL SLIDES
OVER
THE 2" STRIPS. Securely tape all seams with approved
tape as required by code. ( Horizontal / Around & Vertical / Length
wise )
NOTE; In
extreme heat & humid conditions if may be necessary to wrap TWO
layers of BTUFOIL
tm
insulation around any new or existing
un-insulated duct work.
This would generally apply to any duct work that is contained with any
hot / humid unventilated areas.
Duct work in well ventilated areas generally only require one layer.
EXISTING DUCT WORK
SAFETY FIRST
Be sure to wear approved
breathing
/ dust mask and protective eye ware before proceeding. Watch out for
exposed
electrical wires. Watch where you stand, be sure to have solid working
surface.
You may also Re-Insulate existing HVAC Duct Work using the same procedure. Just be sure to check your duct work for air leaks first. Carefully unwrap the existing insulation from the duct work. SECURE & TAPE each joint. Replace the old existing insulation and secure with BTUFOIL tm approved tape or UL181A Duct Tape as required by code. Then follow the procedures as above.
